Council services go to market

back to list

The county council is aiming to get the best value for tax payers by literally taking our services to market.

For one day only, we will have our own market stall to launch a month long public engagement tour that will visit all seven boroughs in the county. Council Leader Jim Harker and chief executive Katherine Kerswell will be donning their aprons and manning a stall of council services at Northampton Market tomorrow, Wednesday 10th March.

The You Choose consultation event has attracted a lot of attention and the national and local media are expected to attend – please go along and show your support between 11am and 12 noon on Wednesday.

The market stall tour is part of our  ‘You Choose’ project; a major public consultation into priorities on public spending. The campaign has three parts: a public tour, a media relations campaign and an innovative digital element that uses social networks and online communities to disseminate information.

The event in the Market Square will include a mosaic made up of photos of local people who have already taken part in the project, plus a digital screen that displays the faces of those participating in real time. Also present will be a Video Cube in which people can record their views and a Message Wall that displays written opinions.

The market stall concept allows us to illustrate just what excellent value for money council services are – for example, our Libraries Service costs each resident the same amount as four bunches of grapes a year.
