£60,000 award to develop online eye test for children

An innovative solution developed by a Northamptonshire optician with the support of NHS Northamptonshire has been awarded £60,000 of funding to deliver a simple online computer-based eye test to pre-school children, with no requirement for training or software installation. The test will be a derivative of the adult online vision screener 'Vutest' produced by John Sheinman who practices in Northampton.

Latest weekly figures show that patients in Northamptonshire are in the UK's top ten of users of the NHS Choice system with more than 90% of those referred to hospital by their GPs opting to take advantage of the system that allows them to choose to go anywhere in England where care is funded by the NHS. This includes NHS hospitals and some private hospitals.
